Two Story

Two Story is a gallery and café housed in a historic canal building in the center of Amsterdam. atelier axo was architects on the project, which included a comprehensive renovation of the property—from basement to attic—as well as the design of a complete interior.
Almost all of the furnishings have been custom-designed for the project, from the café counter and display solutions to two gallery benches, desks, and exhibition design on the first floor. The interior has been developed in close dialogue with the client, who wished for a pared-down yet tactile and warm space—a setting that supports both the experience of art and social interaction. The choice of materials emphasizes texture and calm, with surfaces, joinery details, and proportions carefully considered to create a cohesive atmosphere.
